Amazon AI Executive Dilip Kumar Steps Down Amid Leadership Shifts

Dilip Kumar, a senior Amazon executive and vice president of AWS Applications, is stepping down from his current role, according to people familiar with the situation. Kumar has been leading the development of AWS’s upcoming Quick Suite AI agent platform, a major initiative aimed at transforming the company’s approach to AI-powered business applications. He also oversaw the Q Business AI chatbot and the QuickSight analytics tool. Kumar’s departure comes ahead of the expected launch of Quick Suite, and he will remain with the team until the end of the month to ensure a smooth transition. While there is no indication he is leaving Amazon entirely, he may take on a new role within the company. Swami Sivasubramanian, currently VP of AWS Agentic AI, will assume most of Kumar’s responsibilities. Sivasubramanian has been instrumental in advancing AWS’s agentic AI strategy, which focuses on building intelligent, autonomous AI systems capable of performing complex tasks. Kumar, a 22-year Amazon veteran, has held several high-profile positions throughout his career. He previously served as chief advisor to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and played a key role in launching the Just Walk Out technology behind Amazon Go stores. His leadership has been central to Amazon’s push into enterprise AI. This move is part of a broader pattern of leadership shifts at Amazon’s AI division. In the past year, the company has seen the departure of other top executives, including AWS VP of AI Matt Wood, VP of generative AI Vasi Philomin, and director of engineering Rami Sinno.
