Wiley Launches AI Platform to Unlock Lost Scientific Knowledge and Advance Discovery

Wiley has launched Wiley AI Gateway, the industry’s first AI-native research intelligence platform that integrates trusted scholarly content from leading publishers directly into major AI tools such as Anthropic’s Claude, AWS Marketplace, Mistral AI’s Le Chat, and Perplexity. Designed to address the growing need for reliable, citable research in AI-powered workflows, the platform enables researchers to access peer-reviewed, high-quality content seamlessly within their preferred AI environments—without switching tools or compromising on source integrity. Jay Flynn, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Research & Learning at Wiley, emphasized that as AI adoption among researchers jumped from 57% to 84% in just one year, there was an urgent need to meet scientists where they work. Wiley AI Gateway ensures that AI-driven research is grounded in validated scholarly sources, reinforcing the role of authoritative content as the foundation of trustworthy discovery. The platform uses advanced content transformation technology to convert academic material into AI-optimized formats while preserving citation accuracy, methodological context, and peer-review validation. Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), it allows AI systems to understand, synthesize, and properly cite research with the rigor required for scientific advancement. The result is a seamless integration that supports complex tasks like statistical analysis, code generation, and literature synthesis—all while maintaining academic standards. Wiley AI Gateway is designed for interoperability, allowing any publisher to connect their content to leading AI platforms while retaining control over usage and distribution. Publishers such as Sage and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM)—both Atypon customers of Wiley—are already joining the network, with more expected to follow. This creates a scalable, open ecosystem that promotes trustworthy AI research across disciplines. Anthropic’s Lauren Collett highlighted the value of the integration, noting that the AI Gateway enhances Claude’s research capabilities by connecting it directly to verified scientific literature. Researchers can now combine AI’s analytical power with peer-reviewed content to unlock new workflows that are both efficient and rigorous. The platform is already supporting major initiatives. The European Space Agency’s Φ-lab is using it to feed scholarly content into the Earth Virtual Expert (EVE), while Wiley and AWS have launched a generative AI agent for scientific literature search on AWS Marketplace—the first such tool developed by a publisher on the platform. AWS’s Dan Sheeran praised the move, stating it helps researchers spend less time sourcing data and more time driving innovation. Meanwhile, in a parallel effort to improve data reuse, open-science publisher Frontiers has introduced Frontiers FAIR² Data Management, the world’s first comprehensive, AI-powered data service designed to make research datasets truly reusable and properly credited. FAIR² turns the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable—into a practical, scalable system by automating curation, compliance checks, AI-ready formatting, peer review, and permanent hosting. Powered by Senscience, Frontiers’ AI Data Steward completes tasks that once took months in minutes, delivering researchers a certified Data Package, a peer-reviewed Data Article, an interactive portal with visualizations and AI chat, and a FAIR² Certificate. This ensures every dataset is citable, reusable, and recognized—addressing the alarming reality that 90% of scientific data is lost or unused. Pilot users across health, climate, and biodiversity research have praised the platform for simplifying data sharing, enhancing transparency, and enabling cross-disciplinary collaboration. Experts like Dr. Neil Harris of UCLA and Dr. Sebastian Steibl of Naturalis Biodiversity Center highlight FAIR²’s ability to make complex data accessible to non-specialists, policymakers, and even AI systems. Together, Wiley AI Gateway and Frontiers FAIR² represent a new era in research infrastructure—one where trusted content and reusable data are seamlessly integrated into AI workflows, accelerating discovery while ensuring integrity, credit, and long-term impact.
